A plain-language answer, before your child opens the app.
AIQ is a free, browser-based game that teaches children ages 5–18 how artificial intelligence works. Through 36 interactive lessons across 6 themed worlds, kids learn AI concepts, real-world applications, and ethics — adapted to their age. Think of it as "Duolingo for AI literacy."
Playing solo needs no sign-up. Your child can start immediately, and everything — progress, XP, quiz scores, journal entries — stays on their own device. Nothing is sent to a server unless a teacher has set up a class.
If a teacher's class is joined, AIQ stores the minimum needed to make that work: a nickname your child picks, a PIN (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text), and lesson progress. It never asks a child for a real name, an email address, or a photo.
No ads, ever. No in-app purchases. No social features — children cannot message or contact other users, in or out of class. Every class-scoped feature is locked to that teacher's own roster.

Each lesson takes 5–15 minutes, with age-appropriate pacing built in:
The app follows the American Academy of Pediatrics' "5 C's" framework — prioritizing quality Content, Context, the Child, the Caregiver, and Conversation over rigid time limits.
The curriculum is aligned with the AI4K12 "Five Big Ideas in AI" framework (AAAI & CSTA, funded by the NSF):
The core philosophy is "AI-native, not AI-dependent" — every lesson reinforces that kids must still think, create, and solve problems without relying on AI.
Tip: the best learning happens when you explore together — ask your child to explain what they learned. Teaching it back is the most effective way to retain it.
